Now that so many good scrapbook paper and embellishment designers are Web savvy, you can find plenty of free digital scrapbooking supplies on the Internet. So if you know how to do an online search and download files, you can have an almost endless supply of images to create professional-looking scrapbooks. That caused famous artist Mary Englebreit to remark recently that the Internet is so overflowing with terrific free scrapbooking designs, it can provide almost any type of images you might need. And she should know about good images; products carrying her graphics sell like hotcakes!
The following are samples of some of the types of free scrapbook materials I’ve found on the Web:
Antique
There seems to be an upsurge in the number of people looking for vintage scrapbook papers and embellishments. That could be because vintage art is so timeless and creates such beautiful results. Antique cards make terrific vintage scrapbooking embellishments, as does antique clip art. And when you can find digital scrapbook papers made from compilations of vintage images, you’ll experience digital meeting traditional in a beautiful and useful way. Antique designs also cover a wide variety of subjects, including images as diverse as vintage travel posters, antique flower baskets, Victorian fashion illustrations, magic show posters and old sailing ships. So whatever the topic of your scrapbook, you can probably find antique art to match.
Holidays
Holidays are great subjects for scrapbooks, since those are the occasions when many of us create some of our most lasting memories. And it’s not just the “showier” holidays, such as Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day and Halloween that inspire scrapbooks; it’s the minor holidays too. You can find lots of patriotic scrapbooking papers and embellishments online for holidays such as Veterans Day, Fourth of July, Memorial Day and Flag Day. There are also many images out there for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Earth Day and any other holiday you can think of; even the off-beat and downright bizarre ones.
Flowers and Butterflies
People who scrapbook seem to love flowers of all kinds, and who can blame them? They’re appropriate for almost any occasion. Butterflies attract a large audience too, because they represent summertime, freedom, happiness and other cheerful things. Flowers and butterflies are also diverse, because an abundance of them can be found as both illustrations and photos, and in modern and vintage styles. You can even find free flower scrapbook papers that have multiple mix-and-match designs in the same collections.
Wedding Images
Scrapbooks and weddings are a natural combination, because couples usually have at least one photo wedding album. But if you can make it a wedding scrapbook instead, you can will have an even more creative way to preserve your precious memories. There is a surprisingly good selection of wedding embellishments online that will allow you to create one of these very special mementos with no or little cost. And if for some reason you don’t find any specifically for weddings that appeal to you, flower scrapbook images will often do just as well.
Babies
Like weddings, tiny tots invite photography. And what scrapbooker wouldn’t want to pass down a beautiful baby scrapbook to her child as he or she gets older? Fortunately, you can find a huge selection of scrapbooking images for babies. If you haven’t looked at baby images for a while, though, you might find the color schemes a little surprising these days. Burnt orange, chocolate brown and red are all the rage, as well as a few specific shades of green. Blue and pink are still popular, of course, it’s just that you can find a lot of bolder color choices too.
So the next time you need scrapbook supplies, check online. You might find some amazing free things.
